Alarm Fencing is "the" next generation in fencing. It successfully combines the principles of BARRIER FENCING and ELECTRIC FENCING in one.

Barrier fencing has become very popular in the last years due to its design and materials used. The design is a fence with small or relatively small apertures through which one cannot get one's hands or tools to loosen the nuts and bolts on the inside part of the fence. The materials used are normally thick steel wire that is much harder to cut than the wire used in ‘normal' fences. Thus, the name barrier fencing. These barrier fences are powder coated to create black or green products. Black especially appears highly transparent viewed from a direct angle. While barrier fencing was an attractive perimeter defence for a while, criminals now cut through and even remove entire sections of fence.

Electric fencing has been available in the market for some decades and its use has also undergone a number of changes. Most recent applications have to install an 18 or more-strand electric fence in "piggyback' mode directly on the back of barrier fencing. The idea is to use both technologies together. While this configuration is becoming the new standard in fencing, it is not impenetrable, and the weak points of each fence remain in place. The barrier fence is still a ‘dead' fence that just stands there, and the electric fence is still a soft barrier that poses little to no threat to the criminal intent on breaking the fence.

Alarm Fence is the first product (South African designed) to successfully combine the principles of barrier fencing with electric fencing.

Alarm Fence is an electrically charged barrier fence.

It can be set on any one of two modes:
- Low voltage
- High voltage

In the low voltage setting, the Alarm fence will not shock a person who touches or holds on to the fence, thus making it safe to use in public areas. In this setting, the fence will merely register that it is being touched, held onto, or being interfered with in one way or another & go into alarm mode.

In the high voltage setting the Alarm fence will hold all the same functions as in the low voltage setting but will also deliver an electric shock as per legal standards.

The power of the Alarm Fence product comes at the next level, where the fence becomes intelligent. Once connected to a computer, diagnostics can be run, zones can be defined, the site and the fence can be superimposed on a Google Earth image, alarm conditions indicating the actual zone where the activity is registered can be sent to the owner or ideally an armed response company etc.

The Alarm Fence barrier is 4mm hardened steel wire 50x50mm or 4mm horizontal and 3mm vertical hardened steel wire with 50x25mm quarters.


- The International norm is that electrical fences must not contain lethal electrical shock

- The electric shock in the fence may not exceed 50 volts

- The international Electrical Technical Commissions regulations 60335-3-76:2006 as well as SA Occupational Act. Electrical machinery regulations (the assumption is for the 50 volts to be delivered by Alternating Current Power)

- The Alarm Fence installations allows for voltage to be regulated and can be set below 50 volts and normally installed between 30 - 40 volts DC (Direct Current)

- Furthermore, the pulse going through the fence is non-capacitance pulse, which cannot shock a person.
